Grand Signing Ceremony of "Kungfu Yoga" (working title) Co-Production Between China and India

The first “Silk Road International Film Festival”, which aimed at present the features of contemporary Chinese film to the world, was unveiled in the ancient city of Xi’an. The biggest luminescent spot in the Festival was the grand signing ceremony of first film project under the China-India co-production agreement—“Kungfu Yoga” (working title). The film will be directed by the Hong Kong based Stanley Tong, who directed the “Stone Age Warriors”. We had Dong Gang—Deputy Director of the State General Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and TV, Bai Aying—Vice-governor of Shanxi Provincial People’s Government, together with the domestic and international film professionals to witness this historic moment of China-Indian cooperation.

More than one of the BRICs, China and India are currently the great film markets with most rapid expansion in the world; it will become two largest film markets beyond the Hollywood. “Kungfu Yoga” will start and witness the cooperation and collision between these two film cultures.

In the ceremony, the chief director of “Kungfu Yoga”, Stanley stated: "this film will across cultures and language barrier, it includes treasure hunt, adventure, action and suspense, all these elements will cause audience's most attention, the film will make audiences around the global not only in love with it, but also easy to understand. I expected this film to portray the cultural exchanges, the legendary stories and cultural landscape between China and India, the two countries with great ancient civilization”. Stanley is the President of China Film International (CFI), newly established joint venture with China Film Co., Ltd, CFI will elaborate its resources and creation advantages in international cooperation and distribution, strive Chinese story globally, presenting Chinese films to the world.

The agreement between Indian firm Viacom-18 and Chinese firms Taihe and Shine World was inked on the sidelines of Xi’an film festival. Today’s signing is only started the history of co-production between China and India, it is learned that Jackie Chan is expected to feature in the movie and other top stars will be announced later.
